US Treasury Hacked, Redirecting Visitors To Web Site In The Ukraine Serving Malware
Las Vegas, NV - May 5, 2010- Computerworld and other news outlets reported today that three web sites of the US Department of the Treasury have been hacked. Computerworld said that "...hackers had added a small snippet of virtually undetectable iframe HTML code that redirected visitors to a website in the Ukraine that then launched a variety of web-based attacks based on a commercially available attack-kit called the Eleonore Exploit Pack....". Site visitors was not aware of the redirection, since the iFrame added by the hackers constitues a web site embedded in a web site and invisible to the user. Microdasys' GeoShield, currently available with its SCIP SSL Content Proxy and later this quarter as a plugin into Microsoft's Forefront Threat Management Gateway, will protect enterprise users that visit such pages. GeoShield allows security administrators to define security policies that block access to web sites that are physically located in high risk regions. Blocking access to web sites and servers in countries where a company does not normally do business, not only increases productivity, but protects from Zombie and Botnet attacks and data harvesting.
